Luang Prabang's National Museum is the former Royal Palace, which offers a mesmerizing display of the Lao culture's opulence. There are many buildings that you can explore within the Palace compound such as the interesting Royal Barge Shelter, a stunning Conference Hall & of course the Haw Pha Bang inside of which is displayed the Prabang Buddha. There's also a building where a display of the King's collection of American cars from the year 1950 to 1970 can be found.
The city’s most ancient temple, Wat Sene & the magnificent Wat Xiengthong depicts classical Laotian architecture. The Wat Sene is conspicuously glorious with its gold stencilling applied directly to the outer walls. The doors are intricately carved with elaborate gilded figures of divinities & mythical animals while the windows are adorned with impressive gold stencilled balusters.
The Wat Xiengthong, on the other hand, houses an elaborate mosaic of the tree of life, ornately carved walls, unique Buddhist deities & a 12-metre high funeral carriage. Also popularly known as the Golden Tree Monastery, Wat Xieng Thong is thought of as the gateway to Luang Prabang as it is strategically located close to where the Mekong joins the Nam Khan River.
The Wat Visoun as well as the sacred shrine of Wat Aham & Wat Mai are other spellbinding attractions you'll explore on this tour along with the peak of Mount Phousi followed by a quick stroll at the night market, where you can find a wide selection of handmade textiles of all colors & sizes, perfect to bring home as giveaways to family & friends.
