Under the bigtop in downtown Siem Reap, comes to life an evening show at Phare, the Cambodian Circus. Run by the NGO that goes by the same name, it supports the Khmer youth through various arts & performance training.
One thing unique about this circus is that it does not involve clowns, animals or ring masters who whip or goad them to perform for the crowd. Instead you'll get young talented performers who have been trained extensively on acrobatics, balancing acts, fire dancing & even ballet.
Phare is a project launched by the Phare Ponleau Selpak, a non-government association that supports children & young adults by providing them with their basic needs like food, shelter & ultimately a decent living through training & education.
The show is a lively one that will surely capture your attention as it combines elements of high flying, tight-rope walking, juggling, contortioning performers as well as music & theatre circus antics in one energetic showcase of Cambodian culture.
Enjoy this evening of cultural discovery for a worthwhile cause & don't forget to pick up a few unique souvenirs on your way out.
